Many disciplines are required in Bio/pharmaceutical R&D

Many disciplines are required at multiple points in the cascade of work from drug discovery through drug development.   These disciplines are typically organized either by department or project.  Most bio/pharmaceutical companies differentiate staff between discovery and development by their difference in focus.  Modern R&D blurs the distinction between many of these disciplines.  The application of resource from any discipline varies in the point of initiation and the duration of application (this topic is further discussed here)
